background: HoxB6 is cytoplasmically expressed throughout fetal epidermal development, but displays nuclear expression in normal adult skin. HoxB6 protein also has nuclear expression in hyperproliferative skin conditions, but appears to be localized in the cytoplasm in basal and squamous cell carcinomas. HoxB6 genes are also expressed in normal adult lung. Function: HOXB6 belongs to the homeobox family. The homeobox genes encode a highly conserved family of transcription factors that play an important role in morphogenesis in all multicellular organisms. Subcellular Location: Nuclear Post-translational modifications: Phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR. Similarity: Belongs to the Antp homeobox family. Contains 1 homeobox DNA-binding domain.
