The protein contains a 121 residue extracellular domain, a single transmembrane segment, and 2 tandem intracytoplasmic catalytic domains. The PTP alpha protein is ubiquitously expressed and may play a fundamental role in the physiology of all cells. Subcellular Location: Membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein. Similarity: Belongs to the protein-tyrosine phosphatase family. Receptor class 4 subfamily. Contains 2 tyrosine-protein phosphatase domains.
